Stephan Oppenheimer is the Managing Partner of Pontalba Capital and oversees all investment activities. With over twenty years of direct private equity investing experience, he has driven growth and value creation at companies from early stage ventures to large-cap acquisitions. In founding Pontalba, he has focused on growth equity into businesses with a purpose tied to sustainable and environmentally-friendly business practices.
Prior to founding Pontalba Capital, Stephan spent five years as a Partner with Moelis Capital Partners, a middle market private equity firm where he oversaw the business services practice, including environmental services and circular economy businesses. Previously he spent ten years with CCMP Capital (fka JPMorgan Partners) in New York and London, where he led investments in the U.S. and internationally.
He has served on the boards of numerous companies including sustainable brands e-commerce grocer Hive Brands, University Properties, healthcare lender MidCap Financial, Spanish cable operator Grupo Corporativo Ono, leading theater chain AMC Entertainment, and others. He has lived in New York, London and Paris, and participated in over 30 private equity investments.
Throughout his career he has served on the boards of and advised non-profits and other organizations including ParentChild+, an early childhood literacy non-profit, where he serves on the Executive Committee, women’s health fund FemHealth Ventures, Youth I.N.C. and City Harvest, as well as two health care initiatives in Ghana and Burkina Faso in Western Africa.
He received a B.S. in Electrical Engineering from the University of Virginia and an M.B.A. from The Darden Graduate School of Business at the University of Virginia.
